The SDRN Primary Care Initiative (PCI) has won the prestigious Diabetes UK (DUK) Primary Care Award at DUK Professional Conference 2015.
The PCI works to increase capacity for diabetes research in primary care and involves Diabetes Specialist Research Nurses working in General Practice to run studies. The PCI achieves a range of benefits including:
Giving patients more opportunities to participate in research
Allowing practices to be involved in research with little call on existing resources
Enhanced capacity (complementing research in secondary care)
Allowing for access to different patient populations
Opportunities for additional income streams for GPs and community pharmacists to become involved in clinical research
